Microsoft invests in Nook eReader

May 3, 2012

Microsoft has announced a $300 million investment in Barnes & Noble’s Nook business unit.  Under the agreement Microsoft will have a 17.6% equity stake and Barnes & Noble 82.4% in the new spun out company.

Although the Nook is popular in the US, it has failed to lauch internationally and the deal with Microsoft could give it the help it needs to take on Amazon in the lucrative eReader market.

So far neither Barnes & Noble or Microsoft have detailed the full plans of their new company.
